For Hannover Messe 2023 event we created a mixed reality application to introduce visitors to the capabilities of Siemens Simcenter Amesim in terms of battery development.
Simcenter Amesim is a system simulation platform that allows design engineers to virtually assess and optimize the systems’ performance. It helps optimize the dynamic performance of mechatronic systems, analyse power consumption, design, and validate control laws for electrical devices for the automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery and heavy equipment industries.
The booth featured the real life Ecurie Aix Electric racecar. When looking at it through the Oculus Quest 2 headset, the car was overlayed with its CAD model. The application offered more information about battery requirements definition, battery cooling, battery charging requirements, thermal runaway and battery aging and degradation.
For each topic the users could drag the icon and place them at a specific place above the race car to unlock another level in the application. When correctly activating a topic visitors could first inspect, hold, and rotate the relevant CAD models in mixed reality. Linked to each topic we showed visitors how the Amesim software is the solution they need to create a digital twin to run simulations and optimizations on.

Kinamo services
Kinamo created the concept and developed the application in a couple of weeks.
We used the MRTK-unity set of components developed originally for the Microsoft Hololens and deployed it for the Oculus Quest 2. By combining custom programming and Passthrough we were able to create a link between the race car physically present on the booth and a VR layer where visitors see a real-time view of their surroundings.
We chose to work with the Oculus Quest 2 to create a marketing asset that can easily and at a very limited cost (compared to other headsets) be used by other Siemens marketing teams.
